Earthquake in Turkey and Syria
On February 12th, 2023, a powerful earthquake struck the border region between Turkey and Syria. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale, caused significant damage and loss of life in both countries. The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the city of Afrin, in northern Syria. The quake was felt across a wide area, including in major cities such as Aleppo, Gaziantep, and Hatay. The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries such as Lebanon and Iraq. In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, reports began to emerge of widespread damage and destruction. Buildings were collapsed and many people were trapped under the rubble. Emergency services in both Turkey and Syria were quickly mobilized to try and rescue those who were trapped.
